EPM has an amazing staff! Managers & supervisors please read!

Date of stay: March 2011
This review was also posted to TripAdvisor My husband and I were at EPM from March 24th to April 2nd 2012. I wanted to wait a little while before writing my review because I was afraid if I had written it the day we got home I would have just been gushing during the entire thing. Granted, I may gush regardless of the wait but I wanted to be sure I got it all down before I forgot anything important. This was our second trip to EPM, and I hardly believe it’s possible for me to say this but this trip was even better than the first. The first trip having been perfect, I didn’t think it was possible things could be any better. But this time we were there for 9 nights, where the 1st trip was only 4 nights so we had more time to do things like a spa treatment, and get to know the staff a little better. I think my first review on EPM spoke to the rooms, facilities and beach. And even though I normally don’t like the type of review I’m about to write (because as a future guest I know I will never remember the names of people mentioned) I thought it was important to give credit where credit is due. I really hope the managers/supervisors read these reviews because, although I’m sure you know this, you have some of the best people on the face of the earth working for you! I may misspell some of the names or get job titles wrong, so if you have any questions, please let me know. On our first visit (November 2011) Raquel was our beach waitress. She works SO hard! She is fast, efficiently juggling all the drink orders and clearing away empties while maintaining a sweet and caring personality. We tip, but unfortunately not everyone does, and she was just as nice and friendly and attentive to the non-tippers as she was to us. We are beach people, and we were sorry to find out that the staff positions are rotated, so Raquel wasn’t working the beach this time, but was at the pool instead. Not to worry though because we met a few new faces on the beach this time. Paola, Zara, Jesus and Gustavo were all just as friendly and helpful as Raquel. Paola even brought me a special YUMMY whipped cream-topped drink and sang Happy Birthday to me on my birthday. She’s SO Sweet. She was also bubbly and happy and funny. I was also very impressed with the towel/beach attendants. They really hustle, running around fetching chairs and towels to anywhere you want. Unfortunately, few people remember to tip them, but they deserve it. If you speak Spanish and happen to see Cesar, ask him to tell you the story about how Yucatan got its name. If he has time, he will also teach you a few words in Mayan. If we were up to it we would stop at the pool bar for a drink on our way up to our room. There we got to know the bartender Jorge. Here again is another VERY hard working guy! I got the feeling that he really loves his job because regardless of how busy he did his job with a smile. And he’s funny! He and my husband together had me laughing so hard, I’m pretty sure there were a few snorts in that laughter of mine. If you do remember Jorge’s name, ask him to make you a Pepsi Chicle (chicle is gum in Spanish). One afternoon he asked me what I wanted to drink and I told him to just make me whatever. He put a drink in front of me that, I’m not kidding you, tasted like Pepsi and bubble gum. Since this was a concoction of his that had no name yet, he said he would call it the Pepsi Chicle. That was very cool! We also visited the spa on this trip. We had a couples massage/facial that was (WOW!) heavenly. I know I’m going to get the names wrong… The person who worked on my husband was Leidy, and the one who worked on me was Keira (?).The facility felt very upscale, clean and comfortable and just super relaxing from the second we stepped through the doors. And the massage was just divine. There are really no other words to describe the experience, but we will definitely include the spa in future visits. Last but certainly not least we loved Ivan, our waiter at Agave. After our first day Agave went to a completely new menu and the new one is just over the top! I actually didn’t even look at the menu, simply told Ivan to bring me what he liked the best. And wow! I think I had goat (?) and that meat just melted in my mouth! We went to Agave three times during this stay, and everything was delicious! On our 3rd night (it was my husband’s birthday) Ivan made us a special desert right at our table. He made peaches flambé and again it was delicious. The entire night was almost magical. That night there was a guitar trio of women with the best singing voices there. The people we met, and got to know just a little, this time around is what made this trip even better than the first wonderful one, well that and the fact that we were there twice as long. EPM has an amazing staff! That, plus the fact that the resort is gorgeous, spotless and nicely laid-out all lead to us already planning our 3rd trip for later this year. I can’t wait to be back in paradise!

Planning a wedding there Nov2013. What was the weather like when you went last year?

The weather was great. Zero humidity, high seventies during the day and low sixties at night. One day we had a few sprinkles, but it lasted about 5 minutes. That was the worst weather during the entire trip. I would go back in November in a heartbeat.
