Excellente and Getting Better!
We stayed 11-19 May 2011 for our annual anniversary trip. I am late writing this because when we pulled into our driveway upon arriving home, my wife called my mother to let her know we were home. When my mother got up to answer the phone she fell and broke her hip! So we have been a little busy since we got home. Mom is fine by the way.
First let me thank Mr. Gabriel Garcias-Pardo, the General Manager of the Excellence Punta Cana, During the managers reception that is held every Wednesday in Santo Domingo Plaza, he came over and spoke to my wife and I for about 15 minutes, and upon learning that this was our third trip to the Excellence he took our room numbers and the next morning both my wife and I and the couple we travel with were delivered a bottle of the best Spanish Champagne, an Excellence shirt and hat.
On the subject of managers, I've titled my review "Excellente-and getting better" because after meeting the managers at the reception, I saw them throughout our stay.
The managers that I had contact with were all great. Mr. Jose F. Gonzalez the Executive Chef was constantly supervising food preparation and service. I saw him about 50% of time when we went to eat. As far as the food is concerned, I've read some of these other reviews, I don't know where they were eating, But it could not have been where we were.
The food was better than ever, served quickly and the wait staff was always there if you needed anything.
The Concierge Manager Ms. Linda Bauer was great and she too was out supervising her staff and interacting with guests all the time.
The Public Relation Manager Mr. Robert Puello was the last person we saw as we left the resort at the end of our stay. As the four of us sat on the Mourners Bench (If you go to EPC you will know the bench where you wait for your ride to the airport) Mr. Puello came by to talk to us. He made sure that we had a last drink and personally went and got us each a bottle of water for the trip.
Now let me give you my conclusions and then I give some specifics.
If you want an outstanding vacation on the beach with only adults and are willing to wear bug spray (at dawn and dusk)the Excellence Punta Cana is hard to beat for the price.
We have been to EPC three times. and will return ASAP. We have also been to the other Excellence properties in Mexico, And other adult only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
One of the complaints I see alot of about the Excellence Punta Cana is the distance from the airport and the hour plus bus ride. But after having just returned I can say the roads have been improved drastically in the past three years. Me, I kind of enjoy the ride.
I just ask the driver to stop at the store, and I get a bottle of Presidente, relax and watch the countryside roll by.
My purpose here is not to rehash all the things that others have found wrong, but to cover what I find to be right with this resort and why you would want to spend your vacation/holiday there.
1.The Staff. I found out from Mr. Puello the P.R. Manager that there are 700 employees at EPC. The staff I found would leave you alone if you did not speak to them first. I you spoke to them any of them from the General Manager down to the maids would be glad to speak with you (virtually everyone speaks some English) .
2. The Grounds. The grounds and facilities are keep immaculate. There is constantly someone cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing,or pruning.
3. The Pools. There is a pool for everyone. BLUE the pool bar is a fairly noisy and bustling place. The rest of the winding pool is fairly active also. The cascading pool on the other hand is very quite and relaxed.
4. The Bars. You are never more than 100m from a bar at any time. And you can get a drink somewhere 24 hours a day. (between 4-5 AM that is your in room refrigerator)
5.Domingo. Domingo is a World class saxophone player that you have to hear to believe. Nothing I can tell you will do the man justice.
The bottom line is: If you want to find fault no resort will be good enough for you. If you want to get away to a tropical paradise and have a wonderful time and not spend yourself in to the poor house then-The Excellence is Excellente!

Thanks Marla!!! Counting down, 66 days to EPC!!
So jealous Donna! I expect a lengthy review so I can live vicariously…again…until we can get back. Maybe next year for our 10th wedding anniversary!
